We proudly support our KAT artist, Minh-Tam Nguyen. He is a France-based percussionist, composer, and educator.
1. Which KAT instrument do you play? How many octaves?
I’m playing malletKAT PRO KS (3 oct.).
2. How long have you been playing it?
I’ve bought it 2 years ago but I had views on it for a lot of years before deciding to order this one.
3. What do you like about it?
I like the possibility to play my own synthesizers and my own sounds. I like to use all the MIDI features to control sounds, effects, lights and also video games that I’m creating with l’Atelier du Jeu Vidéo of Angoulême. That’s the way I usually play but, sometimes, it is just really cool to only use the Kurzweil Sounds for jam sessions.
4. malletKAT to control lights and video games!?!? Wow!!!! Can I hear more about it?
I’m controlling lights with DMX on Ableton Live or MaxMSP. I’m playing Rain Tree and the malletKAT and two Yamaha drum pads are taking the places of the crotales. I can control myself the lights as the composer wanted (and much more) without any light technician.
For the video game, it is a little more complex . My brother and I are using OSC messages to control sounds and sprites .We had to create our own network and it’s still a little too complex. We are creating @Ack the 17th of May, 2017 in Strasbourg for 9 musicians playing with game controllers, real instruments , video game . The audience will also control some things with their smartphone. This is a pedagogic creation but I’ll use it for my concerts using my malletKAT.
malletKAT is not only for sounds, but also for lighting and gaming.
