malletKAT

We interviewed a young KAT artist, Matthew DiBiase! He plays malletKAT, not with mallets....

1. How long have you been playing malletKAT?

I picked up my malletKAT in the summer of 2015 before going on tour with a band of mine called the Echoes Jazz Quartet, so I've been playing for about 2 years now.

2. What do you like about them?

With experience as a drumset player in addition to my specialty in mallet percussion, I always hoped to design or find a mallet instrument that had the responsiveness of a drumhead. With the malletKAT I didn't have to look any further. My favorite feature of the malletKAT is having this responsiveness that enables my rudimental drumset playing to take form with pitches and triggers on the malletkat in Ableton live. I often play the malletKAT with drumsticks that have practice tips stuck on the end to enable the most bounce off the pads with something similar to a mallethead.

malletKAT is not only for mallets.
